The future of industry lies in connecting local and global resources.

THE FOUNDATION

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND STRATEGIC THINKING IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT AND SALES

Andreas Hennig’s professional career began in the 1980s with solid training as an industrial mechanic – the foundation of his extensive technical expertise. At an early stage he demonstrated a particular talent for analysing and optimising manufacturing and production processes. This know-how soon led to responsibility as a department head, where he made workflows more efficient, eliminated bottlenecks and established stable processes.

The next major challenge was strategic and operational procurement. Within a short time, he took over as head of procurement and developed international sourcing strategies, combined with the establishment of a powerful supplier network and long-term partnerships. These measures delivered cost savings, efficiency gains and stable supply chains in an increasingly globalised market.

CHALLENGES

INTERNATIONAL PROCUREMENT: CHALLENGES AND SUCCESS FACTORS

Our entry into international procurement began in the mid-1990s, when the Schengen Agreement opened up new opportunities for cross-border trade in Western Europe. During this period, supplier networks – particularly in Southern Europe – were systematically expanded and valuable experience in international logistics was gained.

With the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact at the end of the 1990s, the Eastern European market was opened up. The industrialisation of the region and new production facilities offered extensive opportunities for sourcing cost-effective components. In a phase of rapid industrial development in the 2000s, the next logical step was the integration of Asian suppliers. Strategic partnerships and consistent quality inspections ensured that the high standards already in place were maintained. What initially represented a major challenge is still associated today with considerable effort when selecting new suitable suppliers.

NETWORKS

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND NETWORKS AS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

As local resources become increasingly scarce, international procurement is indispensable. Shortages of skilled labour and rising production costs exacerbate supply bottlenecks, confronting companies with immense challenges. Building a professional team and a resilient supplier network is, however, a demanding process. Different cultures, language barriers and regulatory requirements make the development of reliable partnerships complex.

Trust cannot be built overnight – it requires personal commitment and direct presence. On-site visits to suppliers are essential, as digital meetings alone are not enough to establish strong relationships. In this way, a global network has evolved over the decades. Many of these partnerships have existed for more than 25 years and have grown into long-term collaborations.
